The song is not intended to be a political statement, but rather a purely human statement expressed in the words and thoughts of a father to his child, as the father prepares to join the fight in the brutal Ukraine-Russia conflict.
The Glass Cats is a group created by songwriter Eric Dorer as a means to present his compositions. (Jazz musicians once referred to each other as “cats,” and “glass cats” gives the term a playful ring.) All compositions are written and created in MIDI on a keyboard controller entirely by Eric-- both music and lyrics-- using a digital work station (DAW). This results in a demo recording. The demo is then uploaded to an AI platform to be “covered” by artificial musicians who are far more capable of playing their various instruments than Eric is. The AI “cover” of each composition is then downloaded back to a DAW, further refined, mixed, edited and mastered. The miraculous result of this process is the performance of each composition by some of the most masterful artificial musicians imaginable, while faithfully retaining the composition's form and stylistic integrity. I know, there are “purists” who resist any use of AI. I will gladly leave them to their endless hours of practice in damp basements and lonely bedrooms. I would rather spend my time composing new and better music. I am not easily satisfied, and I am well pleased with these productions and the way they present my compositions. You will judge for yourself, of course; and I hope you find in this music something you can genuinely enjoy listening to as much as I enjoyed its creation.
